Definition
Share of voice is a classic marketing metric: the share of attention a brand commands in its market. When applied to AI, it measures the proportion of responses that mention or cite your brand across a representative set of prompts, compared to those of your competitors.
How it works
We define a panel of prompts—covering discovery questions, comparisons, and brand research—pose them regularly to the leading AI models, and then track who appears. If your brand appears in 12 out of 40 responses and your main competitor in 20, your share of voice is 30% versus 50%.
Why it matters for your site
The citation rate alone doesn't tell you if you are growing faster than the market. Share of voice reveals your relative position: it is the metric that indicates whether a competitor is becoming the go-to reference in AI responses.
The We-R perspective
This is the first indicator we look at in our GEO reports, alongside the sources used by AI. It allows us to target the content and third-party sources where a competitor is outperforming us. This is how Linker became the most cited PR agency by AI in its market.

Have questions?
Transparency for informed decision-making.
By dividing the number of answers citing your brand by the total number of answers analyzed, on a fixed panel of prompts, then comparing that figure with your competitors'.
Enough to cover your services and your buyers' questions: usually between 15 and 50 prompts, in each language of your market.
Ideally every week, since AI answers vary. Look at the trend over a month rather than a single snapshot.
